Wae Rebo Village

A unique traditional village located at ± 1126m above sea level which is surrounded by a green mountainous landscape and consists of seven conical shaped Manggaraian traditional houses. The rich biodiversity in the forest, especially of birds and different plants along the way, makes the hike to the village with its welcoming inhabitants more adventurous and memorable. Respect the local values by showing respect and behaving appropriately.
How to get there: Wae Rebo is located southwest of Ruteng, the approximate distance is ± 76,2km driving through Golo lusang, Iteng, Papang, Wae Wela, Cabang Papang, Dintor, and ending in Denge. The hike to Wae Rebo from Denge is around ± 6.5km

Liang Bua Cave

An interesting limestone cave where series of excavations for archeological research were conducted, especially after the discovery of Homo Floresiensis was announced in 2003. The decorative stalagmites and stalactites inside the large 1,300m2 cave creates a lasting impression of the natural processes of how the cave was formed, preserved, and inhabited by humans, bringing alive a series of historical events.
How to get there: Liang Bua is located in the northern part of Ruteng, driving towards Reo, turn to Rua road passing Sondeng, Ranggi and ending at the gate of the cave. This is a distance of about ± 14km in total.

Ketebe Beach

Ketebe beach is located 70 kms in the northern part of Ruteng town.

Tengku Lese Waterfall

Named after the village, Tengkulese or locally called Cunca Lega is a breathtaking panoramic two-tiered waterfall with massive amounts of water plunging to its bed, decoratively surrounded by acres of rice terraces. The waterfall invites visitors to come closer, but be aware of difficult sections of the path. It is strongly recommended not to go there during rainy season.
How to get there: Accessible by car or motorbike from Ruteng. Lies about 28km towards Cancar passing through Santo Klaus, Cumbi, Kakor, Pasa, passing the office of Rahong Utara sub-district and ending in Nanu village from where you can walk around ± 2km to the waterfall

Caci Dance Attraction

Caci is a boisterous war dance perfomed by men only. It is a play rather than a dance because it consists of two opponent parties. It is very serious yet fair play. Since it is a festive play. It could be perfomed at any occasions , such as before and during PENTI, a yearly thanksgiving ceremony, KABA feast , after the wedding ceremony called Nempung and even at the Independence day of August the 17, or at the party in the honour of important guest, etc.CACI is realy a people’s fiesta and everybody can participate in it.

Watu Alo Terrace Ricefield

Watu alo lies in the north parth of Ruteng town with the distance aprroximatly + 4 km.
How to get there: drive by motorbike or public transport. It is very suitable with Cyc

Ulumbu covers an immense area with warm grounds, boiling water flowing from different small caves, massive steam pillars rising from fumaroles and vapors dominating the scenery of the geothermal field, which creates a scene of particular natural attraction. The geothermal field is considered a promising energy resource and a geothermal power plant operates there. Some spots in the area are extremely hot and there is a danger of andslides; please ask local people for guidance.
How to get there: Drive from Ruteng towards Golo Lusang, proceed to Iteng and Wewo village and make a turn at Pong Geok junction toward Ulumbu. This is a distance of approximately ± 26.5km.

Lingko Meler

The huge scenic round spider web shaped rice field is a representation of the complex unique Manggaraian agricultural lifestyle, especially in terms of distributing the fields to each family within a village community. Lingko means farmland, and the allocated share depends on the family’s size. Lines are drawn from the center of the circular field to the outer edge, defining the size of a family’s land as a certain part of the resulting pie segments.
How to get there: Lingko Meler is located in the west of Ruteng in Meler village. The distance is approximately ± 17km, and it is reachable by motorbike or public transport. From there continue to walk up the hill to the viewpoints

Todo Village

The village has one of the few remaining authentic conical shaped Manggaraian traditional housed called mbaru niang along with the compang or oval structured stones as the village’s ritual center. These represent one of the oldest kingships, established when the Dutch chose the Todo Clan to rule over Manggarai.
How to get there: The village is located southwest of Ruteng and reachable by motorbike or public transport. Head toward Golo Lusang, continue to Golo Cala towards the long bridge over Wae Mese river and pass Popo village along the way, ending at the buffalo horn shaped gate, indicating that you are int he Todo area. Approximate total length of the trip is ± 36km.

Ruteng Pu’u Village

Another name for Compang Ruteng, Ruteng Pu’u, is the site closest to the city representing the Manggaraian architectural building in a small village which consists of two thatched roof drum houses (Mbaru Niang) with a large yard and oval shapedstones called compang. Along with other houses, the   mbaru niang sit side by side in a circular pattern. In the local language, Ruteng means fig tree and presumably the village’s name comes from the numerous fig trees nearby.
How to get there: the village is just around ± 4km in the western part of the city, a 10-15 minutes drive both by public transport or motorbike taxi.

Golo Lusang

Golo Lusang lies 4 km in the south part of Ruteng town. It is on the road to Iteng, the 1600 m pass between Mt Lika and Mt watu Ndao , offer spectacular view over the southern coast of flores including the majestic Mules island. If it is very clear , you can see Sumba island .
How to get there: drive from Ruteng town aprroximatly 15 minutes by public transport with the distance + 4 km. Get up here early for the morning symphony of birds .
